Alternative Energy Systems Ordinance
In order to maintain and enhance the quality of life for current and future residents the City Council approved an ordinance in August 2010 to allow residents, businesses and organizations to utilize alternative energy sources.
At its April 19, 2012 meeting, the City Council approved a resolution authorizing the City to participate in the Minnesota GreenStep Cities program which aims to assist cities by providing a pathway to greater sustainability through 28 best practices specific to Minnesota cities.
Minnesota B3 Benchmarking
The City is participating in Minnesota B3 Benchmarking which is a building energy management system for public buildings in Minnesota and allows the City to manage its public buildings, improve the efficiency of each building and monitor the improvements.
Green-Up, Clean-Up Campaign
The City of Newport takes a proactive approach to Code Enforcement to prevent residential and commercial properties from blight and deterioration but it also needs the help of its citizens to help keep Newport a clean and attractive place to live.
