PIONEER DAY - Sunday, August 13, 2017


Once again, it’s time for the City’s annual get-together celebration! This year’s festivities will take place on Sunday, August 13th, at Pioneer Memorial Park and is jam-packed with fun! Below is a schedule of events for the day:

  • Parade at 11:00 a.m. - The fun will kick off with a parade beginning at Newport Fire Hall, 155 20th Street. The parade will make its way down 2nd Avenue to 17th Street where it will go to 4th Avenue and make its way to Pioneer Park.
  • Live Music from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. -
    • Timbre Junction, a Minnesota Bluegrass Band, will be performing from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.
    • Stone Arch Jazz Band, a Traditional Jazz Band, will be performing from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.
    • Chris Olson will be closing out the festivities with his Memories of Elvis Show at 5:30 p.m.
  • Balloon Artist from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. - A balloon artist will be walking around Pioneer Day making balloon animals for free!
  • Raffle Drawing at 2:30 p.m. - The raffle drawing will take place at 2:30 p.m.
  • K-9 Demo at 3:00 p.m. - The Washington County Sheriff's Office will be performing a K-9 Demo at 3:00 p.m. by the Veterans' Memorial.

There will be food, vendors, games, bingo, inflatables, a car show, and the St. Paul Park-Newport Lions Club's beer and wine tent for everyone to enjoy! All you can eat corn on the cob will be available with the purchase of a Pioneer Day button, which will be available at Newport City Hall, the Library and Community Center and at various local businesses in July. You may purchase a button for $3, or 4 for $10. The buttons are also used for the raffle drawing. Individuals do not need to be present for the raffle drawing as winning numbers will be placed on the City's website, Facebook page, and Channel 18.


Looking for Volunteers - The City is looking for volunteers to help out on Pioneer Day. The City and Anchor Bank will be co-sponsoring the corn tent once again this year and is seeking volunteers to help prepare the corn between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering at the corn tent, please contact City Hall at (651) 459-5677.

Parade Application - If you would like to participate in the Pioneer Day parade, please return the form to City Hall by July 17, 2017.

Vendor Application - If you would like to be a vendor at Pioneer Day this year, please return the form and payment to City Hall by July 17, 2017.

Special Event Vendor Application - All food vendors need to be licensed through the MN Department of Health or Agriculture. If you do not have a license through them, you will need to obtain a special event license through Washington County.
