STUDENT VOTERS

Where to Vote
As a college student, you have a choice as to where to cast your ballot.  You may select only one residence and vote once in any given election.

  • If you live at home while attending school, you vote at your hometown polling place.

If you live on campus, you may vote either at your hometown polling place (as long as you still have a permanent residence there), or at the polling place in the neighborhood where your school is located (but not at both places).

  • If you live off campus at school, you may vote either at your hometown polling place (as long as you still have a permanent residence there), or at the polling place in your school-year neighborhood (but not at both places).

Election Day Registration
To register at the polling place, bring a valid driver’s license with your current residence address on it with you.  If you have an old address on your valid driver’s license, bring a utility bill in your name (due within 30 days of the election) with your current residence address on it.  You may also combine photo identification from a U.S. passport or military identification card with the utility bill.  Students may use a variety of documents with their student identification cards.  Call ahead to your county auditor to make sure you bring the right documents.

Effective January 1, 2006, all new registrants must provide their drivers license number or MN ID card number, if none, then last four digits of your social security number, if none, then write none in the space provided for the social security number.
