In 2011, the City celebrated the Civil War Sesquicentennial. During this celebration, the City dedicated the Newport Veterans Memorial in Pioneer Park. The Veterans Memorial, which was approved in 2010 as part of the Master Park Plan and 2010 Comprehensive Plan, will consist of two elements. First, the twenty-five foot flagpole, which has already been installed. The flagpole forms the focal point for the second element: a circular plaza made of brick pavers inscribed with the names of individuals, living and deceased, who served honorably in the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, National Guard and Coast Guard.

The City installed the first round of bricks in the fall of 2013. Bricks are available for sponsorship at City Hall for $75. Bricks may be sponsored by individuals, family members, companies or groups. Individuals may also sponsor a brick for one or several of the Officers that enlisted and served in Company B - Third Minnesota Volunteer Infantry during 1861 and 1865. Click here to view a list of those men.

The City will order bricks twice a year to install. If you would like to sponsor a brick and have it installed during the fall of 2017, please submit the application and payment by August 31, 2017 to:
